Party in the dog park

The people* who use the dog park decided to have an easter party.

We lost count of how many dogs there were.

But everyone was very well behaved and we had a lovely time.

Tumbling Tuesday

At about 6am the human was woken by a loud thump. Barnaby had managed to roll off the bed. He landed between the bed and the wall, next to a small table but he managed to scrabble back up and settled down to sleep. It was an omen of what was to come.

It was lock keeping day. Barnaby was in his Dogs Trust harness with his soft lead connected to the human's belt. Luckily!

Laura was working on an extending boat hook when she heard a loud splash and turned to see Barnaby's bottom disappearing under the surface of the water! Panicking slightly she hauled on the lead, grabbed the harness and heaved a very wet dog out of the lock! She didn't wait to see if he could swim!

It's the first time he's been immersed since he was adopted.

It's a good job it was a sunny day and he could dry off by trotting around.

The rest of the day went better for Barnaby.

He got to meet several other dogs and was given treats by some of the humans.

He even had a nice, cool nap in the pub at lunch time.

It was a long day for a doggy though and by the end of it he'd had enough of sun, cyclists, and bin bags so he had a bit of a shout at a man going to the rubbish bin; it was time to go home and pass out!

What a nice weekend

"You're a big dog!"

Barnaby met a horse on Saturday!
Sunday was extremely hot, a bit too warm for us, but we wandered through a bluebell wood where it was shady.

It's been a big week!

Laura ordered some new (second hand) furniture so she had to spend Friday afternoon and Saturday morning getting the old stuff out.

The new lot arrived and so Saturday afternoon was spent getting it in place, and then sleeping on it. I think Barnaby approves.

We had to have some chill out time after all that upheaval so Barnaby had a splash about in the River Crane on Sunday.

On Tuesday the real work started at the lock so Barnaby was there from 9:30 to 4:30, that's the longest he's been in a new place since he came here. He was a little uncertain in the morning and barked at the first two boosts that came through,  but after lunch, where he dozed off under a table, he was much more relaxed. He slept well after though!

The next day he found some more water to play in, more his depth than the canal!

PS. In 45 minutes at the park we collected a whole carrier bag full of rubbish that other people had left behind. Please take your mess home or to a bin!!!

Back to work

When she's not digging the garden over, pruning or weeding, Barnaby's human is a Volunteer Lock Keeper for the Canal and River Trust. Now spring is warming up the season is beginning, so it's time to get back to work.

Barnaby would be great company at the lock so Laura took him for a visit today to see if he would be happy there.

He barked a lot at the first boat but got more relaxed over a couple of hours. It was a very hot day though, we might need a sun shade in the summer.

We will go back at the weekend and try to get Barnaby accustomed to it all before work starts on Tuesday. In the meantime Barnaby is just going to relax!

Who knew.....

We have a big rec just five minutes from home!

We had great fun playing chase for twenty minutes before the sun set

It's a wide open space!

 ➖➖

We had spent the morning at Cranford again.

It's becoming a real favourite, especially now someone has found the river.

A really lovely afternoon

We went to Cranford Park again

It had rained all morning so the ground was a bit slippy but the sky was clearing.

Sunlight began to dapple the moss covered logs.

It was nice to look at but the human shouldn't really let Barnaby lead the way!

He takes routes that don't follow the path and Laura had to clamber over a fallen tree.

We ended up on a path alongside the motorway, and the remains of an old building built into a really old wall.

But then came out to a lovely little avenue.

Barnaby tried to find the ice house but there's hardly anything left to see.

The HaHa is quite obvious though.

It is nice that he can have some time off the lead and he is starting to make some friends among the dogs that we meet there.

It was so good to see him run about in the open spaces there and roll in the grass like a puppy. Sorry we didn't get any shots of that!
